Senior AI Engineer – Generative AI / LLM

For a long-term project within a leading international financial institution in Basel, we are looking for an experienced Senior AI Engineer to join an Advanced Analytics & AI team.

• Design and develop AI-driven applications and software architectures using Python
• Build and deploy Generative AI and Large Language Model (LLM) applications
• Develop testing and evaluation methodologies for LLM-based solutions
• Work with Azure OpenAI APIs and related AI services
• Develop RAG and agent-based AI solutions for different business use cases
• Explore, preprocess and integrate large structured and unstructured datasets
• Build APIs and interfaces to integrate AI solutions into existing platforms
• Ensure applications are production-ready through testing, CI/CD, monitoring and observability
• Monitor, maintain and continuously improve deployed AI applications
• Collaborate closely with technical teams and business stakeholders

You will work alongside AI Engineers, Data Engineers and Quantitative Developers to design and build production-ready AI and Generative AI applications. The role combines strong Python software engineering with hands-on experience in LLMs, RAG, AI agents and modern cloud technologies.

• Around 5+ years of professional Software Engineering experience, with recent hands-on experience as an AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer or similar
• Strong Python development skills and experience building production-grade applications
• Proven experience developing and deploying Generative AI / LLM solutions
• Hands-on experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex or comparable frameworks
• Experience with prompt engineering and LLM evaluation
• Practical experience with AI agents / agentic AI frameworks
• Familiarity with RAG architectures and vector databases such as ChromaDB or Weaviate
• Experience with cloud environments, ideally Microsoft Azure / Azure OpenAI
• Good understanding of CI/CD, monitoring, performance analysis and application support
• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Strong English communication skill

• Experience with FastAPI, Flask or Django
• Docker or other containerisation technologies
• Streamlit or Plotly Dash
• SQL and NoSQL databases
• Graph databases and graph-based data representations
• Front-end technologies such as React, Angular, JavaScript, HTML and CSS
• Previous experience within banking or financial services
• Contributions to AI/ML open-source projects or relevant AI certifications
• Master's or PhD in a relevant technical field
