For our Client, a leading pharmaceutical company based in Basel, we are looking for a motivated NGS Scientist-
Single-cell and spatial omics technologies are transforming biomedical research by enabling deep characterization of complex biological systems at unprecedented resolution. These technologies provide critical insights into cellular heterogeneity, disease mechanisms, therapeutic responses, and translational biology.
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist / Associate Scientist to join a cutting-edge genomics platform team focused on single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) applications. The successful candidate will work at the interface of molecular biology, genomics, and translational research, supporting the development and implementation of innovative omics technologies that accelerate scientific discovery and therapeutic innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and implement advanced NGS-based workflows with a focus on:
- Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq)
- Spatial transcriptomics
- Multi-omics and multimodal profiling approaches
- Independently perform molecular biology experiments and troubleshoot complex workflows.
- Execute sample processing, nucleic acid extraction, PCR/qPCR, library preparation, sequencing, and quality control activities.
- Generate, analyze, and document experimental results with a high level of scientific rigor.
- Work with challenging sample types including FFPE tissues, primary samples, and low-input materials.
- Collaborate closely with bioinformatics and cross-functional research teams to interpret sequencing datasets and derive biological insights.
- Ensure generation of high-quality, FAIR-compliant data.
- Present scientific findings, protocols, and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous innovation and enhancement of platform capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Genomics, or a related discipline.
- 1-3 years of industry or relevant research experience in genomics or molecular biology.
- Hands-on experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows.
- Strong expertise in:
- DNA/RNA extraction
- PCR and qPCR
- NGS library preparation
- Molecular biology laboratory techniques
- Experience handling clinical or challenging biological samples such as FFPE tissue, tumor specimens, or low-input samples.
- Proven ability to independently design, execute, analyze, and troubleshoot experiments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluent English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with single-cell sequencing platforms (e.g. 10x Genomics Chromium).
- Experience with spatial transcriptomics and spatial biology technologies (e.g. Visium, Xenium, CosMx, RNAscope).
- Knowledge of transcriptomics, genomics, and multi-omics approaches.
- Experience with assay development, method optimization, and technology implementation.
- Familiarity with basic bioinformatics analyses and interpretation of sequencing datasets.
- Experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or translational research environment.
What We're Looking For
We are particularly interested in candidates who combine strong wet-lab genomics expertise with a passion for emerging technologies such as single-cell sequencing and spatial biology. Successful candidates are curious, innovative, collaborative, and excited about applying cutting-edge omics technologies to advance translational research and therapeutic discovery.
