IT-Infrastructure System Engineer

The Role

We are looking for a motivated IT Infrastructure & Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Network Engineering team.

Our team designs, operates and maintains the company’s physical and virtual infrastructure across multiple colocation sites and offices. We take responsibility for servers, storage, virtualization, Linux systems, core infrastructure services, hardware lifecycle management and operational monitoring.

Your primary focus will be Intellico’s data-center and server infrastructure, including Proxmox, Ceph, ZFS and Linux virtual machines. The position also includes selected corporate IT and networking responsibilities.

You will work closely with the team to ensure that the infrastructure supporting our telecommunications and messaging platforms remains reliable, secure and maintainable.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain physical server and storage infrastructure across Intellico’s colocation sites
• Coordinate hardware installation, replacement, upgrades, cabling, rack space and power connections
• Monitor hardware health, power, temperature, storage capacity and environmental conditions
• Operate and maintain Proxmox VE clusters, virtual machines and Linux operating systems
• Operate and maintain Ceph and ZFS storage environments
• Provision, patch, upgrade and monitor Linux servers and infrastructure components
• Operate core infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, internal certificates and related network services
• Implement and test backup, restore and disaster-recovery procedures
• Maintain infrastructure inventories, lifecycle plans, warranties, spare equipment and technical documentation
• Support automation and configuration management for recurring infrastructure tasks
• Coordinate technical work with colocation providers, hardware vendors and external service providers
• Support Cisco networks, Palo Alto firewalls, VPNs and general connectivity troubleshooting
• Administer Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory and Exchange Online
• Support employee devices, office infrastructure, Wi-Fi, telephony and meeting-room equipment where required
• Participate in incident management, infrastructure changes and the compensated on-call rotation

Requirements

• Practical experience with Linux system administration and server infrastructure
• Experience with virtualization platforms such as Proxmox, VMware or comparable technologies
• Understanding of storage technologies, preferably Ceph, ZFS or distributed storage systems
• Good knowledge of server hardware, operating-system installation, patching and monitoring
• Understanding of backup, restore, high availability and disaster-recovery concepts
• Good knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP and general network services
• Experience with Bash, PowerShell, Python or another scripting language is an advantage
• Knowledge of Cisco networking, Palo Alto firewalls or VPN technologies is an advantage
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID or Active Directory is an advantage
• Strong soft skills, including problem-solving, teamwork, ownership and communication
• Education in IT, systems engineering, computer science or a related field, eg:
• Informatiker/in EFZ, Fachrichtung Plattformentwicklung
• ICT-Fachmann/-frau EFZ
• ICT-System- und Netzwerktechniker/in mit eidg. Fachausweis
• A comparable technical or university qualification

• Fluent in English, German is an advantage, resident in Switzerland

Practicalities

• Location: Freienbach, Switzerland
• Employment: Permanent, full-time position, 80%-100%
• Working model: Primarily office-based, with up to two home-office days per week where operational responsibilities allow
• Schedule: Normal working hours with participation in an on-call rotation
• Travel: Occasional visits to other Intellico offices and colocation facilities
