Your position

As Automation Engineer within the PLC & UX Controls, Process Automation skill pool, you will play a key role in building the future automation capabilities of our Competence Center. You will develop robust control solutions, intuitive user interfaces and scalable automation architectures for products, machines and integrated systems.

Combining hands-on engineering with product development, requirements engineering and technology evaluation, you will work closely with internal teams and external partners to transform engineering solutions into modular, standardized and reusable platforms deployable across regions and throughout the product lifecycle.

You will also contribute to a modern engineering environment based on model-based development and automated PLC code generation, creating the foundations for AI-supported engineering methods.

Your tasks

  • Developing and maintaining PLC-based control systems for machines, intelligent handling systems and process automation applications
  • Designing intuitive HMI and UX solutions to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Defining functional concepts, interfaces and reusable software modules for modular product platforms
  • Translating business and customer requirements into technical specifications and automation solutions
  • Evaluating, testing and qualifying technologies, software components and automation solutions from external providers and providing fact-based recommendations for integration or make-or-buy decisions
  • Supporting testing, commissioning, documentation and continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle

Your profile

  • Degree in automation engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science, systems engineering or a comparable technical field
  • Practical experience in PLC programming and industrial automation, ideally in machinery, plant engineering or heavy industry
  • Knowledge of common PLC development environments and programming languages according to IEC 61131-3
  • Understanding of industrial communication systems, machine interfaces and system integration
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to customers, partners, production sites and regional organizations

Languages: English – fluent; German or additional languages are an advantage

Nice to have:Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT, B&R Automation Studio, CODESYS or similar platforms; industrial communication protocols (e.g. Profinet, EtherCAT, OPC UA, MQTT); safety PLCs, simulation and virtual commissioning; robotics, industrial cybersecurity and modular machine architectures; experience working with OEMs and technology partners.
