Senior Kafka Data Engineer – Data Products & Streaming

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior data engineering professional with strong expertise in Apache Kafka, Kafka Streams, ksqlDB or Apache Flink, as well as experience in building scalable, reliable and observable data solutions.

• Analyse existing data structures and map them to a target enterprise data model
• Design and implement Kafka-based data products
• Define event models, data contracts and topic structures
• Develop and integrate streaming data solutions using Apache Kafka
• Work with Kafka Streams, ksqlDB or Apache Flink
• Support the full automated data operations lifecycle, including development, deployment, validation and observability
• Apply best practices for event-driven architectures and real-time data platforms
• Work with Kubernetes and modern container-based deployment environments
• Use and integrate Elasticsearch / Elastic Search for search-related data use cases
• Collaborate closely with data architects, engineers and platform teams

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Kafka / Streaming Data Engineer for an exciting long-term project in Zurich. The role is focused on the design, implementation and integration of Kafka-based data products within a modern data platform environment.

• Start: Approximately 01.08.2026
• Duration: Until 30.06.2027
• Workload: Full-time
• Location: Zurich
• Home Office: 2 days per week possible
• Contract Type: Temporary / Staff Leasing

• Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka
• Expert knowledge in at least one of the following: Kafka Streams, ksqlDB or Apache Flink
• Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, streaming data and real-time data processing
• Experience with data products, data contracts, event modelling and topic design
• Good knowledge of Kubernetes
• Strong experience with Elasticsearch / Elastic Search
• Experience in automated data operations: develop, deploy, validate and observe
• Ability to work independently in a senior engineering role
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent English communication skills
